Romantisme Cinta dan Dinamika Transformasi Spiritual dalam Qashidah Banāt Su‘Ād Karya Ka‘Ab Bin Zuhayr: Analisis Semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce

This study aims to analyze the construction of romantic meaning and the dynamics of spiritual transformation in Qashidah Banāt Su‘ād by Ka‘ab bin Zuhayr through the semiotic perspective of Charles Sanders Peirce.
This study employs a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, with data collected through library research. The analysis focuses on the triadic relationship of semiosis comprising the representamen, object, and interpretant, as well as types of signs encompassing icons, indices, and symbols in the key verses of the qashidah.
The findings reveal that the sign system in Qashidah Banāt Su‘ād is constructed gradually and systematically. Indices predominantly function as markers of emotional responses to physical separation in the nasīb section; icons reinforce the aesthetic idealization of the beloved and the projection of determination through the imagery of the journey in the raḥīl section; while symbols predominantly articulate abstract concepts of disappointment and spiritual values. Furthermore, the study finds that romanticism in Qashidah Banāt Su‘ād undergoes a continuous four-stage transformation: (1) worldly love centered on personal longing (horizontal emotional orientation); (2) psychological struggle arising from the uncertainty of human promises; (3) the search for inner meaning through perseverance and the sacrifices involved in the journey; and (4) the sublimation of love into repentance and the hope for forgiveness before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), representing a vertical spiritual orientation.
This study concludes that romanticism in classical Arabic literature is not merely a manifestation of personal affection but constitutes an inner process of semiosis that moves from the suffering of existential love toward profound religious consciousness.
