Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Socratika: Journal of Progressive Education and Social Inquiry undergo an initial screening by the editorial team. This screening assesses the manuscript’s relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, academic quality, originality, and completeness of the required submission documents.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process. The identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject of the manuscript.

Review Stages

  1. Initial editorial screening: The editorial team evaluates the manuscript’s suitability, originality, format, and compliance with the journal’s requirements.
  2. Reviewer assignment: Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two qualified and independent reviewers.
  3. Peer-review evaluation: Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical foundation, methodology, analysis, clarity of presentation, relevance, and scholarly contribution.
  4. Editorial decision: Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the manuscript may be accepted, accepted with minor revisions, returned for major revisions, or rejected.
  5. Author revision: Authors must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ comments and submit a detailed response explaining how each comment has been addressed.
  6. Final decision: The Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision after considering the reviewers’ reports, the revised manuscript, and the authors’ responses.

If the two reviewers provide substantially different recommendations, the manuscript may be sent to a third reviewer. The final decision remains the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and is based on the manuscript’s academic quality, the reviewers’ evaluations, and compliance with the journal’s publication policies.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents and must not use or disclose unpublished information contained in the manuscripts. Reviewers must also declare any potential conflict of interest and decline the review assignment when an objective and impartial evaluation cannot be provided.

Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that:

  1. The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal.
  2. Research previously presented at a conference, seminar, symposium, or other academic forum is appropriately disclosed.
  3. All sources of research funding and institutional support are clearly acknowledged.
  4. Manuscripts derived from theses or dissertations are appropriately identified.
  5. The manuscript follows the Socratika article template and author guidelines.
  6. All citations, references, figures, tables, and copyrighted materials are accurate and used with appropriate permission.
  7. The authors take full responsibility for the content, arguments, data, citations, and ethical integrity of the submitted manuscript.
Editorial Independence: Editorial decisions are based solely on academic quality, originality, relevance, ethical compliance, and the results of peer review. Payment of an Article Processing Charge does not influence the review process or guarantee acceptance.
