Article Processing Charge (APC) Policy

Socratika: Journal of Progressive Education and Social Inquiry is an open-access scholarly journal published by South Sulawesi Education Development (SSED). The journal applies a transparent publication fee policy to support editorial management, publication, online hosting, and the continued availability of published scholarly content.

No fee is charged when a manuscript is submitted or while it undergoes editorial screening and peer review. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is requested only after a manuscript has been officially accepted for publication.

Peer Review Fee IDR 0
Article Processing Charge (APC) IDR 500,000
Reader Access Fee IDR 0
Other Mandatory Author Charges None

The standard Article Processing Charge is IDR 500,000 per accepted article.

Socratika does not impose any additional mandatory publication charges beyond the APC stated above.

When the APC Is Charged

Authors are not required to make any payment during manuscript submission, initial editorial screening, peer review, or revision.

The APC is requested only after the manuscript has completed the editorial and peer-review process and has been officially accepted for publication.

Payment of the APC is separate from the academic evaluation of the manuscript.

What the APC Supports

The Article Processing Charge contributes to the costs associated with scholarly publishing and journal management, including:

  • editorial administration and manuscript processing;
  • journal management and publication infrastructure;
  • copyediting and production processes;
  • article metadata preparation and management;
  • DOI-related publication services;
  • online hosting and website maintenance; and
  • continued online availability of published articles.
Payment of the APC does not constitute payment for manuscript acceptance.

Editorial Independence

All editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly considerations, including:

  • relevance to the journal's focus and scope;
  • originality and scholarly contribution;
  • methodological quality;
  • ethical compliance;
  • quality of analysis and presentation; and
  • recommendations resulting from the peer-review process.
Payment or non-payment of an APC does not influence peer review, editorial decisions, or manuscript acceptance.

Editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts independently of authors' financial circumstances or eligibility for an APC waiver.

APC Waiver Policy

Socratika is committed to supporting equitable participation in scholarly publishing.

Authors whose primary institutional affiliation is located in a country classified by the World Bank as a Low-Income Economy are eligible for a 100% waiver of the Article Processing Charge (APC).

In addition, authors who experience demonstrated financial hardship may request a full or partial APC waiver. Such requests may be considered on a limited, case-by-case basis.

Approval of financial-hardship waivers is not automatic and depends on the circumstances presented and the journal's available publication resources.

Waiver Procedure

Waiver requests should preferably be submitted after the manuscript has been officially accepted and before payment of the APC.

Authors requesting a waiver may be asked to provide sufficient information explaining the basis of the request.

Waiver requests are handled separately from the scholarly evaluation of the manuscript. Reviewer decisions and editorial assessments are not based on an author's ability or inability to pay publication fees.

Receiving a waiver or discount does not provide any advantage in the publication process, and requesting a waiver does not disadvantage an author or manuscript.

No Paid Fast-Track Service

Socratika does not offer a paid fast-track, expedited acceptance, priority review, or other service through which authors may pay an additional fee to accelerate or influence editorial decisions.

All manuscripts are processed according to the journal's established editorial and peer-review procedures.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a specific period in exchange for payment.

Reader Access

Readers are never charged to access articles published in Socratika.

All published articles are made freely available online immediately upon publication in accordance with the journal's Open Access Policy and the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

  • no subscription fees;
  • no paywalls;
  • no reader access charges;
  • no registration requirements for reading published articles; and
  • no embargo period.

No Hidden Charges

Socratika is committed to transparency regarding publication costs.

Apart from the IDR 500,000 APC applicable to accepted articles, the journal does not impose additional mandatory author charges for submission, editorial screening, peer review, standard publication, or reader access.

If the journal changes its publication fee structure in the future, the updated charges will be publicly disclosed on this page before they are applied to new submissions.

Relationship Between APC and Open Access

The APC supports the journal's open-access publishing model. It does not restrict ownership or access to published work.

Authors retain copyright in accordance with Socratika's Copyright and Licensing Policy, and published articles are made available under the CC BY 4.0 license.

Readers may access and reuse published material in accordance with the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license without paying an access fee.

Transparency Statement

Socratika is committed to maintaining a clear separation between financial administration and editorial decision-making. Submission is free, peer review is free, reader access is free, and the only standard mandatory publication charge is an APC of IDR 500,000 applied after manuscript acceptance. Eligible authors may receive an APC waiver in accordance with the policy described above.
