Abstract

This research employs a classroom action research method consisting of two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II. The subjects of this study are first-grade students at SDN 31 Sampeang. The data collection instrument used is the initial reading ability test. Data analysis techniques encompass both quantitative and qualitative analyses. The results of the data analysis demonstrate a significant improvement in the students' initial reading ability. The average scores of the students increased from 59% in the pre-cycle phase to 69.84% in Cycle I and further improved to 86.89% in Cycle II. These findings indicate that the implementation of the VARK learning model is effective in enhancing reading abilities during Indonesian language lessons in the first semester for students at SDN 31 Sampeang. Beyond improving reading abilities, this research holds important implications within the realm of education. The results underscore the importance of understanding students' learning styles and adapting appropriate teaching methods to enhance their academic achievements. These findings can serve as a guide for educators and policymakers in designing curricula that are more responsive to students' learning needs
