Abstract

This study examines the impact of employing the cooperative learning model, specifically the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) type, on elementary school students' mathematics learning outcomes. Mathematics, a universal science, is crucial for cognitive development and underpins various disciplines. Effective mathematics teaching requires skilled educators capable of designing and managing the learning process. The research was conducted at SDN 4 Maroangin, Maiwa, Enrekang, where a gap in classroom collaboration and engagement in mathematics was identified. The primary objective of the cooperative learning model is to foster group learning with mutual respect and the opportunity for shared opinions. STAD emphasizes student activities and interaction to motivate and support each other in mastering the material for maximum achievement. This qualitative descriptive study followed a classroom action research approach. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The success indicators were improved learning quality, as seen in increased student engagement and higher average math scores. Results from the first cycle showed moderate success, with an average class score of 68.25 and a classical completeness rate below the set target of 70%. After implementing improvements in the second cycle, there was a notable enhancement in both teaching activities and student learning activities. The average score rose to 78.13, with a classical completeness rate of 83.33%, surpassing the target.
