Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education in cultivating discipline and responsibility among students at SMP Negeri 3 Palopo. The research aims to assess the impact of Islamic Religious Education on character formation, specifically focusing on discipline and responsibility. Employing a qualitative approach, the study utilizes observation, interviews, and documentation for data collection. The researcher served as the primary instrument, conducting interviews with the school principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and four students at SMP Negeri 3 Palopo. Data analysis was performed through reduction techniques. Findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education plays a crucial role in developing students' discipline and sense of responsibility. Key supporting factors include teacher exemplification, school regulations, parental involvement, and teacher supervision. Conversely, inhibiting factors comprise student apathy and insufficient parental attention. The study recommends that school administrators sustain character-building initiatives, teachers serve as positive role models, and students enhance their commitment to responsible behavior. This research contributes to the understanding of character education's significance, particularly through Islamic Religious Education, in fostering disciplined and responsible students
